2005 Bow River and Tributaries Stream Flows

This page accesses a log of seasonal stream flow data for the Bow River starting with flow rates at Banff, then Calgary and finally the Indian Reserve. It also contains flow rates for the Bow River tributaries - the Elbow River and the Highwood River.

The photos above were taken about June 20/05 during the height of run off. The Bow River hit some flow rates that haven't been seen before. The last "Flood of the Century" took place 10 years ago and didn't hit these flow rates. The 1st photo is the access at McKinnon Flats. The parking area is now part of the river. The 2nd photo is the "Must Be Nice" / Cottonwood area.  You might notice many new back channels due to the volume of water. Once the flows drop the river will return to "normal" but with some structural changes.
