The Bow River is under Attack from developers
This could be the future with the river valley developed!
Basic map ( without red and green text ) courtesy of Bow River Shuttles. This map of the river shows access points, existing development on the river and new proposed development. I'm told that the city of Calgary has annexed land and is intending to build residential communities on the left bank from Highway 22X to the new Deerfoot Trail bridge. This is within a stones throw of the Policeman's area. Just downstream a little is the proposed "Sanctuary on the Bow" development. I'm also told that there is a proposal to build another residential community across the river from the "Pheasant Pens" which is the downstream end of the Cottonwood Golf Course property. It is labeled Future residential on the map. Next stop - the Highwood and Bow River confluence. Then it is on to McKinnon Flats, Jensen's and finally Carseland.
Map courtesy of Jim McLennan. This map shows the main roads, secondary and country gravel roads. The red arrow points to the North Bow Lodge. With a little pavement we can soon develop the entire river valley. That would be the end of the pristine Bow River and its trout fishery. What a chilling thought. Where are the environmentalists and the protests?
Which would you prefer?
OR However you enjoy Alberta's rivers, surely the former is preferable to the developed version.
